Also called metamorph, mimic, or skin-walker, these people are complex and fickle. They are generally unpredictable because of the ability to change. Shapeshifting is generally not seen as genetic and is actually saw as that it's caused by an inbalance of natural nature, which some other beings define the causes different depending on which who you talk to, or passed in a disease called therianthropy. Witches of the dark will say it's a one of their 'sisters' cursing the person for the Keeper. Other witches come to say it's a gift of the creator and her family. The Viera say it's caused by the child being born in too strong of Mist, giving them their abilities to change. What ever the real cause is, human's often write mythology of shifters, but not are always true and some don't actually realize shifters exist.
Appearance:
They do not have an outstanding looks that show that they are shapeshifters, but do have slight differences that set them apart. Their eyes are often odd colors, even containing more than one color in a single eye, rarely having normal eye colors. Their hair colors can be anything natural or not. Other than those few things, the are passed off as humans. Even though they are human, their character traits are most commonly shared with animals, especially the on animal they commonly have a connection with, and also will have humanize like animal features about them.
Subtypes, Abilities, And Weakness:
There are shifters who have a vast area to change in animals, most generally common creatures such as pets, like dogs and cats, and common wild animals, like deer. But there are shifters that have a specialized shifting ability that allows them to shift into only limited things, but they are much more powerful than their general shifters. General shifters always have a single preferred animal to shift into, though they can shift into several more animals, but they are the strongest in what they call their "True Form". Subtypes are much the same, but they have a limited changing since they are specialized for certain animals. Shifters share the abilities and weakness of their true form shift.
Berserkers:
These are shifters who have a harder time to control their shifting. They commonly on shift when in a fight, turning in creatures like wolves, bears, and other big predatory animals to improve fighting ability. They don' always change on will, but can. Closer analyis of these shifters, they are the most common of people to get involved with violence.
Kitsune:
Japanese for 'fox', these shifters common only shift into foxes, cats, or other small, sly creatures. They can sneak around anywhere practically unnoticed. These people are noticed for their curositity and noseyness, and are pretty good at spying and finding things out.
Selkies:
Selkies are those shifters that can change into aquatic animals and aquatic birds. They are fond of water and the seas. They are also referred to as Kelpies at times. Because of their fondness of water, they tend to try and find jobs where they get to work around it.
Clayfaces:
These are very rare shifters, as they do not actually shift into animals, but shift their looks to look as another human being. They often appear as anyone else. Weaker Clayfaces can only change into people they see, but once the person is noticed, Clayfaces can form into any one of those people, even if it's someone they walk past in the street. Stronger of these shifters can single out certain parts of them and change them individually, thus making someone completely different, but these different looks are also based from people they see and they cannot shift into what ever they picture.[/blockquote]
Lifespan:
As much as their ties are with animals, shifters don't age any faster or slower than any human, thus they have a regular life span and aging process.
Sexual Activity:
The Shapeshifter has an unknown cause, whether it happens in genetics, disease, or in an inbalance in natural nature, since there has been no major scientific study on shifters since shifting is rare happening and it's actually unknown to human kind. Sometimes looking at a shifter's bloodline, some people can trace that there is other shifters before them, but there are shifters that it can some how happen randomly. But all in all, shifting is unknown is cause and can just occur. [/blockquote]
